Esha-Khare-575x321A new battery technology that took top prize in Intel’s International Science and Engineering Fair could allow smartphones to charge in as little as 20-30 seconds.

The project, Design and Synthesis of Hydrogenated TiO2-Polyaniline Nanorods for Flexible High-Performance Supercapacitors, was the brain child of Eesha Khare an 18 year who has her eyes set on using the $50,000 she won for her project at the fair to fund her education at Harvard University, consists of a small capacitor that when paired with a small battery could end the hour or long charging times of most consumer electronic devices like smartphones and cameras.

Khare says that she currently has plans to evolve the technology ever further, however she doesn’t go into any detail on what that might be. In its current form the technology can withstand around about 10,000 charging cycles as well, also making it head and shoulders above what today’s batteries can do. Most rechargeable batteries only have a 1,000 charging cycle limit before they begin to rapidly break down and need to be replaced. There’s also no actual battery acid to speak of –the battery is completely solid state so it’s also more environmentally friendly than today’s batteries as which tend to leak corrosive acids if not properly disposed of.

The 2013 Billboard Music Awards kicked off in at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Sunday. This year’s annual music event was hosted by 30 Rock star, Tracy Morgan, and featured some amazing performances, the first of which was by Bruno Mars, who set the tone for the night by performing his song “Treasure.” From then on there was a steady stream of performances by Justin BieberPitbull feat. Christina AguileraChris BrownThe Band Perry,Taylor Swift, and Chris Brown. But the night wasn’t all about performances, as Billboard handed out a slew of awards. The night’s biggest winner was Taylor Swift, who took home awards for Top ArtistsTop Billboard 200 Album for Red, and Top Female Artist. Swift ended up walking away with eight awards. Other big winners wereRihanna, who swept the R&B categories, winning four awards in all, and Gotye, who’s worldwide smash, “Somebody That I Used To Know,” also won four wards. Kid Rock lived up to his reputation as a “Rebel Soul,” when he walked on-stage to hand out the award for Best Rap Song and took a dig at most of the artist performing that night when he said, “Let’s hear it for people lip-synching to pre-recorded music,” a reference to an awards show in which most of the night’s performers obviously weren’t singing. Music legend, Madonna, made an appearance to accept the awards for, Top Touring Artist. Prince also showed up to accept theBillboard Icon Award, as well as to close out the evening by performing “Let’s Go Crazy” and “Fix Ur Life Up.”

Fact or Crap?

bieberA band of thieves reportedly stole an estimated $330,000 in cash earnings from a Justin Bieber concert in Johannesburg, South Africa, this past Sunday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

While the pop star was on stage, the suspects supposedly undertook a scheme worthy of Ocean’s 11and used ropes and chisels to lower themselves into a safe room at the FNB Stadium.

angelina jolie(1-1368512442)

Angelia Jolie has written a letter in the New York Times, announcing she has had a double mastectomy and the last of her procedures took place April 27th. The Oscar-winning actress does not have cancer, but carries a gene that gave her an 87 percent chance of getting either breast or ovarian cancer.  Her mother Marcheline Bertrand passed away after battling cancer for 10 years at the age of 56 in 2007.  Jolie writes, “I wanted to write this to tell other women that the decision to have a mastectomy was not easy… but it is one I am very happy that I made.” She adds, “My chances of developing breast cancer have dropped from 87 percent to under five percent… I can tell my children that they don’t need to fear they will lose me to breast cancer.”

Angelina Jolie ends the letter writing, “Life comes with many challenges. The ones that should not scare us are the ones we can take on and take control of.”  Read the full letter Jolie sent to the NY Times HERE.
